I have been very succesfull in my life. How? I met an elderly
man when I was 19. I explained to him why I didn't want to go to college. I didn't do great in high school at all. He asked
me if I would like to be tutored by him. He said his wife just died and it would be good for him. I reluctinly agreed.
I went to his house 3 times a week/ One day he said "Chuck why
don't you take Electronic Engineering" I was still lacking some self confidence but was begining to feel more confident
every day. I finally decided to go for it.
To my suprise as well as others, I was making
A's in Physics, Math, Drafting and Public Speaking ect. One day my tutor showed me a letter from the President Of The United
States. He had been given a letter thanking him for all his effort in designing the Minute Man Misslel He was the prime
desiner ! I look back on that day very often and fill like I won the lottery. Yes this man helped me learn but
that is not the most important thing he did for me. He gave me the gift of self confidence and from that day on
I had a thirst for knowledge and a need to help others.
I feel I owe it to the students of Western North Carolina to teach
and share my experience. If someone hadn't came in my life and encouraged me to learn, I shudder to think where I would be
today. I am now a very confident educated man. I have a wife who is an RN(NURSE) and Midwife. I have been a part time
stay at home dad over the last 3 1/2 years to my little boy. His Name is Rio. I have alot of respect for women.
Being a stay at home parent is a full time job. It has really opened my eyes.
My tutor has passed away but I want to give credit where
credit is due. Thank you Mr. John Todt (designer of the minute man missle) Frank Byrd of Blue Ridge Tech and our
previous Mayor Fred Neihof Jr. Who taught me how much fun physics could be . I thank each and every one of you for
helping me achieve all my goals and dreams through education and for believing in me. I plan on passing the gift you
all gave me to help others achieve their dreams !
